your pfd got smaller

The check a lot of Alaskans count on each fall is shrinking again.

Daily Alaska staff · June 4, 2026 · Juneau

This year's dividend check is shaping up a lot lighter.

Lawmakers wrapped up the state budget, and the dividend number is now headed to the governor's desk. It landed well below what a lot of folks were hoping for.

Early on, the House floated a number around thirty eight hundred dollars. That got trimmed down hard as the session went on.

Where it settled is about a thousand dollars, plus another two hundred in energy relief. So figure roughly twelve hundred total per eligible Alaskan.

For a lot of households, that check is real money. People plan around it for winter fuel, school clothes, flights to see family, or paying down a card before the holidays.

A smaller dividend means those plans get tighter. If you were already counting on this fall's check, this is your heads up to redo the math now.

It's the same back and forth we see every year. The state's trying to balance the budget, and the dividend is the piece that keeps getting squeezed.

The number could still shift at the governor's desk, but this is where lawmakers landed it. Worth knowing before you spend a check that's coming in lighter than last year.
