Starting May 1, every short-term rental in Anchorage has to be registered with the city through a new online portal. Registration is free and takes just a few minutes.

Hosts have until July 30 to get registered. After that cutoff, any listing advertised without a municipal registration number is illegal to post, and rental platforms won't be able to collect booking fees for unregistered properties.

The program covers everything from a spare room in Girdwood to a full condo Downtown. The city is collecting the data to understand how many short-term rentals actually exist in Anchorage, which will feed directly into future housing policy decisions.
