Rural Alaska just got city-speed internet.
Phase one of the GCI’s Airraq fiber network is now live, connecting five YK Delta communities. That means up to 2.5 gig speeds with pricing designed to match what urban Alaska pays.
For Western Alaska, that’s a massive shift.
When the full buildout hits phase three, about 11,800 residents will be served over 13 communities. Faster internet changes everything out there, from telehealth visits to online classes to running a small business without lag.
This is infrastructure that actually closes gaps.
