wasilla just won $9.8 million

and the work isn't even in the Valley.

A Wasilla company called Orion Construction just landed a nine point eight million dollar contract from the Coast Guard. The job is down in Seward, building housing for Coast Guard crews and their families.

We're talking six new housing units, four of them four bedroom duplexes, plus two three bedroom units, one of those built for accessibility. There's a maintenance building going up too, along with new utilities, site work, and landscaping.

The Coast Guard is expanding its footprint in Seward and it needs somewhere to put people. A fast response cutter is being homeported there, and crews don't show up without families behind them.

For the Valley, this is the part people miss. Federal construction money doesn't only land in Anchorage. A company that's been doing public works out of Wasilla for more than forty five years just got picked over everybody else.

That's forty five years of pouring concrete through Alaska winters turning into a nine point eight million dollar job.

Construction is expected to wrap up by January of twenty twenty eight, so this isn't a someday project. It's crews, trucks, and paychecks starting now.

If you know somebody swinging a hammer in the Valley this fall, this is the kind of contract that keeps them working through breakup.
