Town Square gets serious

Downtown Anchorage is about to start changing how Town Square feels.
Construction is set to start in May 2026 on long planned upgrades at Town Square Park, and this phase is focused almost entirely on safety. The work is funded by a voter approved $2.9 million bond and finally puts the 2019 master plan into motion.
Seven new security cameras are being installed, along with tree and brush removal to open sight lines across the park. That matters because visibility has been one of the biggest issues keeping people away, especially outside of events.
This isn’t a redesign or a beautification project. It’s a direct response to how people actually use, or avoid, this space today.
