Anchorage's oldest trailer park is being torn down.

South Park Estates has sat at Arctic and Benson since the late 1950s. The land owner is clearing it to make way for up to 150 new townhomes. Residents have been told to leave in three phases.

The catch is the buyout. The developer is offering 6 thousand dollars per family to move out. Folks living there say it costs around 40 grand to actually move a mobile home, so 6 thousand barely scratches the surface.

Each family has roughly 70 thousand sunk into their place once you count purchase, materials, and labor. They're asking for 35 thousand per family so they can relocate without going broke. The first phase is supposed to be out by June 1.
