One of the Valley's busiest crossings is shutting down soon.

The intersection of Trunk Road and Palmer-Fishhook is about to close completely. We're talking up to eighteen days with no through traffic at all.

Crews are turning that stop sign corner into a single lane roundabout. It's a spot that gets icy and tricky in winter, and it's seen far more collisions than a normal corner should.

The full closure is targeted for mid to late June, once the seasonal road weight limits lift. So if your daily drive runs through there, your summer routine is about to change.

Here's how the detours shake out. Headed north, there's a temporary access road going in front of the Valley Country Store. Going south, you're looking at a bigger loop through Palmer on the Glenn Highway.

Plan for extra time, and don't be surprised if your favorite back way gets crowded. Anyone heading up to Hatcher Pass this summer will feel it too. That's a popular weekend run, and this is right on the way.

When it's done, traffic just flows through the circle instead of stopping at the sign. Short term pain for a smoother, safer corner.
