Your PFD just got chopped down to a thousand bucks.

The senate finance committee passed a new version of the operating budget this week that drops the permanent fund dividend to one thousand dollars.

The house had already cut it from thirty eight hundred down to fifteen hundred. Now the senate wants another five hundred off the top before any vote on the floor.

This is the same fight every year.

The governor proposed a full statutory PFD, but that pulled around 1.5 billion out of state savings. Lawmakers say the math doesn't work without cuts somewhere.

For a family of four, the gap between thirty eight hundred and one thousand is over eleven grand. That's groceries, gas, kids' activities, or whatever you had it earmarked for. The session ends on May 20, so the final number lands sometime before then.
