Alaska Communications secured federal funding to build fiber and next-generation wireless broadband in more than 9,000 locations across the state that currently have little to no service. That money comes from the federal Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program, which is pushing billions into rural connectivity gaps nationwide.

Homer, Kenai, Kodiak, and Soldotna are on the list to receive gigabit-speed service through this expansion. For families in these communities who have been working off slow or unreliable connections for years, this is the kind of infrastructure shift that changes what is actually possible.
