North Slope spill response

Crews are still hard at work cleaning up after an North Slope oil spill that happened back in January of this year. The incident involved drilling waste, and response teams moved quickly to contain and remove the material from the site.

Now on to phase 2 of the clean up project, crews have recovered 2,585 gallons of waste, and about 58% of the rig has be removed from the site.

The North Slope is one of the most active oil regions in Alaska, so spills like this trigger immediate response efforts. Containment, recovery, and monitoring are standard parts of the process when something like this happens.

Officials say monitoring of the situation shows no immediate risk to the local community or environment, and ongoing evaluations are expected through the summer to ensure the final clean up is done right.
