north pole's getting a new park

North Pole's main park is about to get a full redo.

The borough's planning a complete refurbishment of Fifth Avenue Park, right by North Pole Elementary. The goal is to turn it into the real centerpiece green space for the city. They held an open house to hear what folks actually want.

The wish list is pretty practical. A new playground anyone can use, real walkways, a fixed up parking lot, and a working restroom instead of the busted one. There's a walking loop, a lawn area, and some seating in the mix too.

They're even planning to bury the power lines and thin some trees to open the place up. It's budgeted at a little over two million dollars. That's a real investment in one small park.

Here's the catch on timing. Design work runs through next winter, and the dirt doesn't start moving until 2027. So this is a slow burn, not a this summer thing.

Still, if you've got kids at North Pole Elementary, this is your park getting a future. Worth showing up to an open house and putting your two cents in.
