Midtown Detours Are Back
Anchorage drivers, brace yourselves.

Anchorage traffic is about to get worse again.
Construction on 42nd Avenue between Lake Otis and Piper Street is picking back up in mid April. Roger Hickel Contracting is returning to start Phase 1 work, and this stretch is going to look like a work zone most of the year.
The project includes new pavement, storm drains, pedestrian upgrades, and replacing the water main under the road.
Access east of Wright Street will be limited through 2026, so if you cut through here to dodge Tudor or Northern Lights, you’ll want a new route. Businesses along 42nd are going to feel it too.
This is one of those projects that hurts now but pays off later.
Fresh pavement and better drainage will make this corridor way smoother long term.
