Matsu transportation update
Mat-Su’s new metropolitan planning organization puts Palmer and Wasilla on the map for serious transportation dollars.

Mat-Su finally got its own metropolitan planning organization, and that changes everything for Palmer and Wasilla. This new setup opens the door to almost one hundred ninety million dollars in combined state and federal funding. We’re talking real projects now — bridge replacements, safer corridors, and that Palmer-Fishhook bike path that’s been stuck in limbo for years. It basically gives the Valley a direct lane to compete with Anchorage-level infrastructure money. And with fifty-seven thousand people in the urban core, the timing couldn’t be better. Expect planners to start prioritizing which routes get fixed first, because this level of funding doesn’t sit around. The biggest question is how fast the region can move once the checks clear. But either way, daily commuters are about to feel the difference.
