Mat-Su’s new front door

A major infrastructure project is now visibly underway at the Glenn and Parks Highway interchange as construction ramps up on the Mat-Su Gateway Visitor Center.

Anchorage drivers are about to see a big change at the Glenn interchange.

Construction is underway on the new Mat-Su Gateway Visitor Center near the Glenn and Parks Highway split. Crews are already past foundation work, and the site is clearly active if you drive through the area.

The project carries an $8.4 million price tag and is designed to be a front door into the Valley. It’s meant to catch visitors right as they enter, not after they’ve already passed through.

That means more traffic slowing down at the interchange, more visibility for nearby businesses, and more pressure on surrounding land values. This is one of those projects that quietly reshapes how people move through the Valley.

The target opening is May 2026, right before peak summer travel. Timing like that is not accidental.

Once it’s open, this spot becomes a permanent landmark for Mat-Su growth.
