Kenai theater just landed on a national short list.

The Kenai Performers are one of only six theaters in the entire country chosen for a national new-play program. It's run by the American Association of Community Theaters. Getting picked is a real honor in the theater world.

They'll stage the worldwide premiere of a brand new mystery called Mystery at the Black Dog Tavern. It's a whodunit set in 1840s Virginia, written by a playwright from back east.

Here's the cool part. The playwright himself is flying up to the Kenai in early July, along with a national script coach, to work the show with the local cast.

The premiere opens July 31 and runs two weekends into August. For Kenai, Soldotna, and the whole peninsula, this is a small-town stage getting a national spotlight.
