ice cream's new wasilla home

There was a line out the door and down the block in Wasilla, and it was all for ice cream.

And on opening day, the line ran out the door and down the block.

Big Dipper Homemade Ice Cream just opened a new Wasilla shop at the Shoppes at Sun Mountain. They moved off their old spot at the Clock Tower and set up on a busier stretch, right next to Tacos Cancun.

If you've lived in the Valley a while, you've watched these folks grow. They started in Palmer back in 2021, in the middle of you-know-what, just wanting to give the Valley a place to celebrate the little wins.

Five years later they've got shops in Palmer, Wasilla, and out by Lazy Landing, plus more than seventy-five flavors. And here's the part I love: they try to put an Alaska ingredient in every single one.

We're talking carrots from a local farm, honey from right here in Wasilla, birch syrup from up the highway. Their newest flavor swirls in salmonberries and a little smoked salt, a nod to red salmon season.

It's not just the shops booming either. Their wholesale side doubled this year, shipping ice cream everywhere from Ketchikan to Nome. When one Alaska shop wins, a bunch of local farms and makers win right along with it.
