Glenn Highway gets fixed

A major rehabilitation project is coming to the Glenn Highway, with phase one scheduled to begin construction in 2026.

Daily Alaska staff · February 2, 2026

Glenn Highway is finally getting real work done.

Phase one of a major rehab project is scheduled to start in 2026, targeting the stretch from Airport Heights to the Parks Highway. About fifteen on-ramps are slated for upgrades, focusing on safety, capacity, and pavement that’s been breaking down for years.

This corridor carries thousands of commuters every day, and it’s one of Anchorage’s most complained-about drives.

The work is designed to reduce merging chaos and extend the life of the road instead of patching it again. Construction will be phased, so traffic pain won’t hit all at once.

This has been overdue for a long time.
