HOOK

East downtown is suddenly getting everything it’s been missing.

SCRIPT

With the Wildbirch Hotel now open and the 4th Avenue Marketplace under construction, this stretch of Anchorage is finally stacking real momentum. The hotel brought 252 refreshed rooms, new dining, and a brewery partner, giving the corridor steady foot traffic day and night.

Just down the block, the marketplace project is adding grocery retail, condos, and mixed-use space shaped around that Pike Place–style concept. That combo means daily shoppers, residents, and tourists all feeding activity into an area that’s sat quiet for years.

The scale of investment is bigger than anything the east side has seen in a long time, and it’s already shifting how developers talk about the district. These pieces create the kind of anchor energy that draws even more projects, especially when someone like Mark Begich is pushing the vision.

If everything stays on schedule, this corner could become one of downtown’s most active pockets. And that ripple will be hard to ignore for nearby blocks.

Downtown’s east side is finally turning the page.
