Downtown finally gets a pulse

The old Nordstrom building in Anchorage has been sitting empty for years, and that may finally change. Now there’s a plan to turn it into a mix of housing and commercial space, bringing people back into a part of downtown that’s been struggling.

The proposal includes around 80,000 square feet of redevelopment. That could mean new apartments, retail, and more foot traffic in an area that’s felt pretty quiet since the store closed.

This isn’t just about one building either. Getting residents to actually live downtown changes how the whole area functions, from local businesses to safety to nightlife.

If it moves forward, this could be one of the biggest shifts downtown Anchorage has seen in years. A vacant anchor turning into a place people actually live is a big deal.
