Builders Face New Rules

Construction rules just changed statewide.

A new Alaska Construction General Permit took effect February 1. It now governs any construction project disturbing one acre or more, replacing the 2021 permit.

That means builders across Anchorage, the Mat-Su, Fairbanks, and beyond must follow updated stormwater requirements. The permit stays in place through January 2031.

For developers, this is not optional paperwork. It affects site planning, erosion control, and compliance timelines before projects can move forward.

Any large subdivision, commercial build, or major earthwork job now runs under the updated rules.

If you are breaking ground this year on one acre or more, this applies.
