Anchorage road money just disappeared overnight as five Anchorage road projects just lost their funding.
The state pulled $18 million and redirected it elsewhere, leaving some long-planned safety upgrades off the table.
This comes as pedestrian crashes and fatalities have been climbing, especially on high-traffic corridors locals use every day.
Assembly members are frustrated because some of these projects were meant to slow cars down and make crossings safer.
Instead, the money is heading to other parts of Alaska as DOT reshuffles priorities statewide.
For Anchorage commuters and walkers, that means waiting longer while dangerous stretches stay exactly the same.
