anchorage is a trail town now

Anchorage just earned a rare national trail title.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association named Anchorage a 2026 Trail Town. Only 28 cities in the entire country carry that designation right now. We are talking about over 300 miles of trails from the Coastal Trail to singletrack at Kincaid Park.

The recognition honors the city for building, maintaining, and celebrating its trail system year after year. It also positions Anchorage to attract more outdoor tourism dollars heading into summer.

On top of that, the city recently updated its recreation plan to close gaps in the trail network. Bridge replacements, tunnel fixes, and repaving projects are all on the way.

For locals and tourists, this is a reminder that even in the big city, Alaska is about the outdoors.
