Anchorage building more homes

Anchorage could see a major boost in housing supply this year as developers move forward with hundreds of new housing units across the city.

The city is pushing toward more than 500 new housing permits this year as part of a bigger plan to add thousands of homes across Anchorage. Several projects are already moving forward, including new townhomes, apartments, and senior housing.

One of the biggest is Powder Reserve West in Eagle River. That project alone is expected to add a large batch of new housing units in one of the fastest growing areas outside Anchorage.

We’re also seeing smaller infill projects around the city. Townhomes and senior housing developments are starting to appear in multiple neighborhoods as builders try to add supply wherever land is available.

Anchorage has struggled with a housing shortage for years. More projects like these could finally start easing the pressure on prices and availability across the city.
