Anchorage building again

Anchorage Building Permits are stacking up fast, and City Hall is leading the charge instead of slowing it down.

The city is on track for more than 500 new permitted homes in 2026, up from just over 400 in 2025, with nearly $646 million in total permit value moving through the system.

Big projects are driving the jump. Holtan Hills in Girdwood is pushing forward, new hotel construction is breaking ground, and senior living projects are finally getting traction after years of talk.

This is not small infill stuff either. These are large, visible developments that change how neighborhoods feel and how long people stay in town.

More units mean more workers can actually live here, not commute from an hour away. It also means builders and lenders are finally confident enough to build again.

When the city speeds up permits, private money follows.
