Your PFD check could jump to $3,800 this year.

The House Finance Committee voted 6-5 this week to advance a draft budget that includes the full statutory dividend. That is nearly four times bigger than the $1,000 check we received last year.

Five Republicans and one Democrat from Nome joined forces to push it through committee. But the full check is not locked in yet. To pay out the entire $3,800, lawmakers need a three-quarters supermajority vote to tap the state's rainy-day Constitutional Budget Reserve.

If that happens, the total payout comes to about $2.47 billion, which would be the single largest line item in Alaska's budget. For a family of four, we are talking about over $15,000 hitting accounts sometime this year. This is the kind of money that changes how people think about paying off debt, buying land, or investing locally.
