Airport Heights Gets 72 Senior Units

Cook Inlet Housing Authority is planning to break ground on 72 senior apartment units in Anchorage as soon as this summer, making way for more affordable housing.

Taking advantage of the looser zoning laws the city has recently approved, the project will open up housing options in Airport Heights. The development is designed specifically for seniors, adding much-needed housing for older residents who want to stay in Anchorage.

Units will include a mix of layouts, and the goal is to provide stable, accessible homes in a neighborhood that is already close to medical services, shopping, and bus routes.

This move comes as Anchorage continues to face a housing shortage across multiple age groups. Adding senior units can also free up other homes in the market as people downsize and transition into age-friendly housing.

This project is exactly the outcome the city was hoping for with the recent zoning law changes.
