30 square miles, zero notice

and Houston's city council found out the same way you would.

The state wants to hand about 30 square miles of land near Houston to its own development authority. The pitch is a logistics hub, power and gas infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and data centers.

Data centers are the part Valley residents keep circling back to. If you live anywhere from Big Lake to Willow, this is the land question that shapes your side of the Valley for the next decade.

The public notice went out July tenth. City and borough officials say nobody called them first, they read about it like everyone else.

On the thirteenth the council passed two resolutions against how the transfer was handled. Not a single vote against either one.

One council member said there was zero transparency, that preliminary decisions were already made before the city had anything to decide.

A separate move to block data centers inside city limits failed four to two. Another member now wants a temporary pause on data center construction instead.

The mayor objects to how this was announced, not to the transfer itself.

Public comment closed Wednesday night, and the state says it'll review what the city sent. There's a meeting on this in September.
